  • 4 soft submarine rolls
  • 300g boiled ham, sliced thin
  • 200g American cheese, sliced
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1 green pepper, sliced thin
  • 1 small onion, sliced thin
  • Sour pickles, sliced lengthwise
  • Black olives
  • Olive oil, salt, and pepper

Method

  1. Split the rolls most of the way through without separating the halves.
  2. Lay in the ham and cheese first, then the tomato, pepper, onion, pickle, and olives.
  3. Douse generously with olive oil: this is the point of the sandwich, not a garnish.
  4. Season hard with salt and pepper.
  5. Wrap in paper and let it sit 10 min so the bread drinks the oil. 10 min
