Ohio Apple Dumplings

  • 6 small tart apples, peeled and cored
  • Pastry for a double batch, rolled thin
  • For the filling: 100g brown sugar, 55g butter, 1 tsp cinnamon
  • For the syrup: 400g sugar, 500ml water, 55g butter, 1 tsp cinnamon

Method

  1. Cut the pastry into six squares large enough to wrap an apple.
  2. Set an apple on each square, pack the cavity with brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon, and draw the pastry up to seal at the top.
  3. Arrange in a buttered baking dish.
  4. Boil the syrup ingredients together 5 min and pour around the dumplings. 5 min
  5. Bake at 190C for 40-45 min, basting once with the syrup, until the pastry is gold and the apples are tender. Serve warm with cream. 45 min
